A representative of Japan’s Foreign Ministry told reporters on Thursday that the visit aims to build close and trusted personal ties between Prime Minister Takaichi and Vietnam’s new leadership, while presenting Japan’s diplomatic strategy, including its Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision.
“Prime Minister Takaichi and Vietnamese leaders are expected to reaffirm the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. She places great importance on building trusted personal ties with counterparts, which is also a key purpose of this visit,” he said.
Japan highlighted cooperation in four priority areas: economy and energy, security, people-to-people exchanges, and international developments, particularly tensions in the Middle East.
Both sides are expected to identify priority areas for cooperation in economic security and expand collaboration in fields such as energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and space.
Japan also underscored the importance of people-to-people exchanges, noting that the growing Vietnamese community in Japan has become an important contributor to Japan’s socio-economic development.
