As planned, PM Takaichi will hold talks with her Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese, on Monday.
The two leaders are expected to confirm cooperation in energy resource supply given global disruptions of crude oil and petroleum products due to the Middle East conflict. They are also expected to issue a joint statement on a commitment to strengthening economic and security cooperation.
The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-Australia Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The two countries have a close relationship in energy security, with Australia supplying up to 70% of Japan's coal and 40% of its liquefied natural gas. Meanwhile, Australia relies heavily on jet fuel and diesel from Japan and other countries.
