On Saturday, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) warned of a “wave” of deadly attacks targeting civilians in the country’s eastern regions. The mission said dozens of civilians had recently been killed in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, though it did not provide further details.
The mineral-rich eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been devastated by conflict for more than three decades, involving numerous terrorist, rebel and armed militia groups.
