Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday that the strait is open to commercial vessels cooperating with Iran, and blamed the US for disruptions in the waterway. He said Tehran has not created obstacles to shipping and called Washington’s blockade of Iran illegal.

Although maritime activity through the Strait of Hormuz has shown signs of resuming, the security situation in the region is still full of risks. Data from Lloyd’s List shows that the number of vessels passing through the strait dropped from 40 voyages on May 3 to 18 voyages on May 10. Before the fighting began, an average of 135 vessels passed through the strait each day.
