Covering more than 3,100 hectares, the reserve lies within the Van Long–Kim Bang–Tam Chuc Sanctuary: Delacour’s Langur Bio-cultural Landscape, which safeguards more than 90% of the world’s last wild population of Delacour’s langurs, a primate species endemic to Vietnam and an icon of global biodiversity conservation.
Tran Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee, said that establishing the reserve is just the beginning. “The bigger challenge is to protect the langurs and their forest habitat while balancing conservation with local livelihoods.”
Protecting Delacour’s langur means protecting Vietnam’s natural heritage and Ninh Binh’s sustainable future, Mr. Dung said.
The reserve is the result of a decade of efforts to protect this rare primate in Vietnam. Its establishment also supports efforts to secure UNESCO World Heritage status for the Van Long–Kim Bang–Tam Chuc Sanctuary.
