For many years now, Palestine has been extending a hand to Israel in order to achieve peace with them, so that Israel and Palestine may live in security and stability, Abbas said during a meeting with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia. He said Palestine hopes to engage in dialogue once a new Israeli government is formed.
With almost all the ballots counted in Israel’s pivotal election, neither the bloc of Prime Minister Netanyahu nor the opposition bloc led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot had enough support to secure a majority in the parliament.
Once the final vote tally is announced on November 4, President Isaac Herzog will speak with party leaders about who they want as prime minister, then tap the candidate he believes has the best chance of forming a government. If the parties fail to agree on a new government, parliament will be dissolved and Israel will hold another election within 90 days.
