Chairman Man addressed the 20th National Press Awards ceremony held in Hai Phong city on Sunday evening to mark the 101st anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day, June 21. He emphasized that each stage of the Party's journey and each period of national development has been marked by pages of press echoing the times.
"The press must be at the forefront of innovation to shoulder greater responsibilities. Journalists must never forget the core values of revolutionary journalism, which are ideals, absolute loyalty to the Party and the Fatherland, and a close, inseparable bond with the people, placing national and ethnic interests above all else," Mr. Man said. "As General Secretary and President To Lam stated in his article, the press must be a place the people turn to when needed. Society needs a trustworthy place to understand the truth."
National Assembly Chairman Man praised the press for contributing to promoting the positive image of Vietnam and its people to the world. He said he hopes that each journalist will possess strong political conviction, impeccable professional ethics, and high professional competence to keep pace with the ever-changing and challenging media environment.
He called on journalists to remember President Ho Chi Minh's advice: whenever writing an article, ask yourself who you are writing for, what the purpose of writing is, and how to write it in a way that is accessible, easy to understand, concise, and easy to read.
The National Press Awards Council presented Prize A to 11 winners, Prize B to 26 works, and Prize C to 50 works. The Voice of Vietnam won two Prize A awards. The first winner is a team of News Department reporters with their production "Disaster Risk Management - A Look from Historical Floods". The other winner is a team of News Department reporters with their special news program called “National Festival”.
