Working with the municipal Party Committee on Tuesday, the Prime Minister called on Can Tho to propose special mechanisms and policies that would enable the city to make breakthroughs based on its existing strengths and potential, particularly in renewable energy, seaport development, and urban expansion.

He also requested that the city develop specific growth scenarios for each sector, including industry-construction, agriculture, and trade-services, while assigning clear targets to businesses and local authorities.

The Prime Minister said: “Improving the quality and productivity of agricultural production requires investment in processing and high-tech industries. Industrial projects, especially in energy, are essential for sustainable growth and stable budget revenues. To meet development goals, we must address infrastructure challenges, including energy infrastructure, road and waterway transport, and soft infrastructure such as education quality. We need to immediately accelerate public investment disbursement and resolve long-standing stalled projects and bottlenecks.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Hung offered incense and flowers in tribute to fallen heroes at the Can Tho Martyrs’ Cemetery.

In the first quarter of 2026, Can Tho recorded economic growth of 7.02%, ranking second in the Mekong Delta. Tourism emerged as a bright spot, with the city welcoming more than 6.2 million visitors, up nearly 22% year-on-year.
