Established in 1076 under King Ly Nhan Tong, Quoc Tu Giam was a center for education of talented individuals and a symbol of Vietnam’s long-standing traditions of valuing education, respecting teachers and honoring talent.

As part of this year’s commemorative program, a national scientific conference titled “950 Years of Quoc Tu Giam: The legacy of Vietnam’s scholarly tradition, talented people and aspiration for national development” will take place in Hanoi on November 12. Scientists and researchers will examine more deeply Quoc Tu Giam’s role in Vietnam’s educational and cultural history.

Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities at the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, told a press conference on Monday: “Since the beginning of this year, we have carried out 10 groups of tasks to serve the 950th anniversary celebrations and the 1,000th anniversary of Quoc Tu Giam. The key events will include the national scientific conference and the national anniversary ceremony. This is an opportunity to honor Vietnam’s scholarly tradition, pay tribute to our predecessors who founded and developed Quoc Tu Giam, and promote its values to international audiences.”

Other highlights include the “Light of Minh Triet” programme on November 13, featuring 950 illuminated lanterns at Van Lake and the inner precinct, and an artistic programme on November 15.
