The festival marks the 71st anniversary of Hai Phong's liberation (May 13), with the theme “Hai Phong – Convergence and Shine”. It will run from May 8 until the end of the month with 64 different activities.

The opening night on Friday will feature a grand art performance, featuring a multi-layered stage, AR technology, automated equipment, sound and lighting tech that meet international standards, as well as fireworks.

Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports Do Thanh Binh said: “This year edition will take place at a new, more spacious location after the administrative merger. Hai Phong is now bigger, has more potentials and better connectivity, as well as an increasingly greater stature. The Red Flamboyant Festival has become a symbol of a new Hai Phong, with a mission to strengthen the city and promote its values in the new era."
