Russia ready to join COVAX

(VOVWORLD) - Russia is ready to participate in COVAX, a global mechanism to ensure fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, said Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva.

Russia’s Izvestia News Agency quoted Gatilov as saying that Russia supports multilateral efforts to fight the pandemic, recognizes COVAX’s role as an important international channel for delivering COVID-19 vaccines to developing countries with weak health systems.

He said Russia is ready to strengthen cooperation with partners, including supplying vaccines, and is considering including the Sputnik-V vaccine in the COVAX program.

Russia has asked the WHO to approve Sputnik-V for the Emergency Use List (EUL).
