The Director of the Communications and Training Department at the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army delivered opening remarks at a seminar themed “Ideological and Cultural Work in Building a Politically Strong Army” held in Hanoi on Wednesday. The event commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Army Communications and Training Sector (May 11).

Lieutenant General Duc underlined the challenges facing ideological and cultural work in the military today. "The global and regional situation is evolving rapidly, complexly, and unpredictably. Strategic competition among major powers is rising. Traditional and non-traditional security factors are intertwined. Hostile forces are intensifying "peaceful evolution," "self-evolution" and "transformation," and attempting to "depoliticize" the military with more sophisticated methods, especially in cyberspace."

"The negative aspects of the market economy, international integration, and the rapid development of technology and social media have profoundly impacted the thoughts and perceptions of officers and soldiers. They are creating both opportunities and challenges for the military's communications and training sector," he added.

The seminar recommended numerous solutions to improving the quality and effectiveness of ideological and cultural work in the military as well as the position, prestige, and effectiveness of the Communications and Training Department's strategic advisory role in the future.
