The allies decided last year to suspend the massive Vigilant Ace drills in an effort to support diplomatic efforts to convince North Korea to give up its nuclear programs.
The two sides instead held a replacement exercise, called the Combined Flying Training Event. Officials at the Defense Ministry and Air Force said the Vigilant Ace maneuvers will be skipped this year too and a flying exercise will be conducted together just as they did last year. Both sides have already outlined related plans.
Starting in 2015, Vigilant Ace was a large scale exercise involving hundreds of aircraft of both countries.
