During their talks in Bangkok on Thursday, shortly after the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President Lam proposed that the two sides quickly establish a joint working group to develop a plan and promote the effective implementation of the "Three Connections" strategy. They include production connection, infrastructure connection, and transformation connection. He called for expanding cooperation in new areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digital economy, green economy, innovation, and a just energy transition.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of people-to-people exchanges, cultural cooperation, education, tourism, and local cooperation. Both affirmed their commitment to continued close coordination and mutual support in regional and global forums. They underlined ASEAN centrality and internal solidarity, cooperation within APEC and the Mekong sub-regional mechanisms.
Both sides also stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight, while resolving disputes peacefully on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Following the talks, General Secretary and President Lam and Prime Minister Anutin met with the press to announce the results of the talks. “Both sides agreed to deepen political trust, considering this as the political foundation in our long-term and close relationship. We will continue to promote high-level exchanges and contacts at all levels and in all sectors through all channels, improve the existing cooperation mechanisms, and maintain and improve defense and security cooperation mechanisms," Mr. Lam said.
"Efforts will be made to promote negotiations and the signing of bilateral legal cooperation agreements. We reaffirm our commitment not to allow any individual or organization to use the territory of one country against the other,” he added.
On this occasion, both leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of the Action Program to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand for the period 2026-2031 and exchanged cooperation documents in science, technology and education.
