On Monday in Hanoi, the top leader met with Acting Secretary of the United States Navy Hung Cao and his delegation, who are engaging in the Pacific Partnership–Friends of the Pacific 2026 (PP-PF26) program.
Mr. Lam called for bringing the relationship between the two countries to a more substantive, profound, and effective level, for the benefit of the people of both countries, and for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
He applauded the recent positive developments in defense cooperation and suggested that both sides continue to effectively implement the agreed-upon mechanisms, programs, and principles of cooperation. Cooperation should be concretized in areas that align with the needs and interests of each side, Mr. Lam said.
Acting Secretary Hung Cao said the United States values its relationship with Vietnam, supports a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam who is playing an increasingly important role in the region.
The US hopes to continue promoting cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global levels, he said and expected to expand cooperation in maritime security, capacity building, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and addressing common regional challenges.
