The top leader made the appeal at a meeting in Hanoi with 100 delegates portrayed in Vietnam Television (VTV)'s “Viec tu te” (Good Deeds) program, on the 78th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's Call for Patriotic Emulation (June 11).

“We need patriotic, courageous, intelligent, compassionate, honest, responsible, disciplined, creative people with aspirations to excel. These qualities must be nurtured from the family, school, community, organizations, and the entire social environment. In addition, we need to promptly recognize, appropriately reward, and protect courageous, humane actions for the common good; and severely punish acts of exploiting kindness, profiting from charity, masquerading as compassion, and damaging social trust,” Mr. Lam said.

To achieve the goal of building a developed, strong, civilized, prosperous, and happy Vietnam, resources, technology, institutions, infrastructure, and talent are needed, General Secretary and President Lam said, noting that innovation, digital transformation, and increased labor productivity are also essential. However, he added the foundation of culture, ethics, people, and social trust must never be underestimated.

The General Secretary and President requested a strong emphasis on the role of the media, literature, arts, education, and digital platforms in amplifying positivity. Every citizen, especially the younger generation, should become a responsible digital citizen who knows how to spread good, he said, adding every school, agency, residential area, and business can become a space for nurturing good deeds, spreading kindness, and building trust.
