80 years ago, on June 29, 1946, in response to the development needs of the revolutionary armed forces, the Ministry of National Defense announced a decision to establish the Capital Artillery Regiment, consisting of three platoons of Lang Fortress, Xuan Tao Fortress, and Xuan Canh Fortress. Since then the artillery and missile troops have contributed to the glorious victories of the nation, culminating in the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954 and the Spring 1975 general offensive and uprising.
In his address at the event, General Secretary and President Lam emphasized that with a proactive strategic mindset in undertaking the task of national defense in the new situation, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense have decided to establish the Artillery and Missile Command on the basis of the Artillery Corps in August 2025. He called this a momentous milestone, which demonstrateds a new vision for building the strength of the Army in the new conditions.
“Improve the organization of forces, enhance strategic planning capabilities, and build an artillery-missile defense posture within the national defense system. Streamlining is about being stronger, faster, more accurate, and more effective. Modernity is not just about having new weapons, but about having modern people, organization, command, training, logistics and technology, and modern combat methods. The Artillery-Missile Command must be compact but not thin, modern and closely aligned with Vietnam's conditions; strong but durable, and mobile to protecting the Fatherland early, from afar, and from all directions,” the Party and State leader said.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam also requested the Artillery-Missile Command to continue doing well in mass mobilization work, gratitude policy, participating in building local political foundations, and maintaining a close, inseparable bond with the people.
