Trump's comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, proposing a direct meeting between them to discuss ending the conflict.

"I'm glad that they're maybe talking about meeting," President Trump told reporters at the White House. "I think it would be great if they met. They should. Get it done."

Responding to a question about Putin's statement that Moscow is willing to make concessions if Ukraine takes similar action, Trump declined to disclose details but said both sides would have to make certain compromises to achieve peace. Trump asserted that the US has played a crucial role in promoting dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.

President Putin said that the US President's proposals for peace could end the fighting if Kyiv was ready to compromise. He made his comments to foreign media editors on the sidelines of Russia's annual ‌economic forum on Thursday.

Russia has recently conducted one of the largest missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Nevertheless, Russia, Ukraine, and the US signaling direct talks is a rare positive sign in finding a solution to the conflict.
