UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the decision follows the reopening of border crossings for trade and improved access via conventional supply routes. However, humanitarian needs remain immense, with more than 13 million people in need for food assistance and 12 million lacking access to clean water. The UN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Syrian people wherever access is possible.
Established in July 2014 under UN Security Council Resolution 2165, the operation facilitated more than 65,000 truck deliveries of essential aid, assisting an average of 1.25 million people annually. It also served as a critical lifeline for border communities in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in February 2023.
