According to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, Iran initiated contact following President Trump’s call for dialogue. Pakistan will act as mediator in the negotiations, playing a key diplomatic role. The US hopes the meeting will yield concrete progress toward an agreement and lay the groundwork for further steps to end the conflict.

A senior official also said Vice President James David Vance, who led previous talks, is ready to join if progress is made.

Efforts have been made with Pakistan hosting high-stakes, in-person negotiations in Islamabad aimed at achieving a lasting peace in the US–Iran conflict, now in its eighth week. Talks in April involving Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner produced no breakthrough but helped extend the ceasefire.
