Speaking in the Oval Office, President Trump described President Xi as a tremendous person and said the two leaders share strong personal ties and deep economic cooperation.
Key topics expected to be discussed include Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump noted that China receives about 60% of its oil through the region, giving it a direct interest in maintaining stability and freedom of navigation.
He also raised the possibility of expanding energy cooperation, suggesting that China could import more oil from the US instead of relying heavily on the Middle East. He highlighted US states such as Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska as well-positioned to supply energy to Asian markets.
Trump’s visit to Beijing is scheduled for May 14–15.
