On July 12, 1984, the MB-84 Campaign began on the Vi Xuyen front, marking the start of one of the fiercest battles in the struggle to safeguard Vietnam’s northern frontier. Thousands of artillery shells rained down on strategic hilltops in Thanh Thuy Commune. Within just 24 hours of fighting, nearly 600 officers and soldiers - many of them from the 356th Division - made the ultimate sacrifice, most at a very young age.
The Vi Xuyen Battle Commemoration has been held annually for many years. Beyond honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, the event serves to educate younger generations about patriotism, foster national pride, and reinforce awareness of the importance of protecting national sovereignty and border security.
