Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung chaired a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday on a draft proposal to develop a nationwide system of national key research centers, testing facilities and laboratories focused on strategic technologies.

The proposed network would link the entire innovation chain, from research and development to testing, refinement and commercialization while supporting strategic technology missions and helping businesses accelerate innovation.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung said: "We need to create a modern, coordinated and shared research infrastructure system capable of serving Vietnam's long-term science, technology and innovation goals, focusing on strategic industries. It’s also necessary to clarify implementation timelines, funding mechanisms, and the legal framework governing the operation of key national laboratories."

Under the proposal, by 2035 Vietnam aims to establish a nationwide network of modern, interconnected research facilities, including 10 to 15 major infrastructures dedicated to core and foundational technologies.

The system would also provide testing, measurement, certification and product validation services to help bring innovations to market. Vietnam is also expected to set up at least 20 leading research groups and 10 innovative start-ups.

By 2045, the country hopes that several of its research centers and laboratories will rank among the most advanced in the region.
