She told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ regular press briefing on Thursday, responding to a question regarding a proposal by the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to impose additional tariffs on goods from 60 economies, including Vietnam, based on findings that these economies have not adequately adopted or enforced measures to prevent imports produced through forced labor and thereby hinder US trade.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: “The findings of the US Trade Representative’s investigation on forced labor practices do not accurately reflect the reality of Vietnam’s efforts to prevent and minimize forced labor. Vietnam’s consistent policy is to strictly prohibit all forms of forced labor and to fully comply with the regulations of the International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as commitments under free trade agreements. This policy is clearly enshrined in Vietnam’s legal framework, government programs, and action plans, and is effectively implemented in practice.”

Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang further emphasized that Vietnam has provided comprehensive and detailed information to the United States throughout the investigation process.

In this spirit, Vietnam has engaged, is engaging, and will continue to engage in constructive and cooperative dialogue with the United States to address outstanding differences on the basis of bilateral and multilateral trade commitments while being committed to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of workers and businesses.
