During a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Wednesday in Hanoi, Deputy PM Giang said that looking ahead, based on the signed documents and agreements, he hopes that both sides will continue to effectively deliver defense cooperation. Areas of focusing include exchanging delegations at all levels, especially at the high level, to share views on global and regional issues of common concern and directions for promoting defense cooperation.
He stressed the need to maintain the effectiveness of existing consultation and dialogue mechanisms, and defense industry. General Giang expressed his hope that Deputy Secretary Landau, in his capacity, would continue to support and promote more substantive bilateral defense cooperation, making a positive contribution to the overall relationship between the two countries.
For his part, the US Deputy Secretary of State pledged to foster the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development" between Vietnam and the United States and bilateral defense cooperation in particular, to make it increasingly effective and substantive.
