The figures were announced at the Ministry of Science and Technology’s regular press briefing for May, held in Hanoi on Monday. According to the Ministry, high-tech products accounted for 50.7% of Vietnam’s total export value in the first quarter of 2026.

Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem continues to gain momentum, with 963 science and technology enterprises, 20 science and technology exchanges, and 37 innovation centers operating across 26 of total 34 provinces and cities.

In May, the Ministry introduced a range of new mechanisms and policies aimed at strengthening the institutional framework for strategic and emerging technologies, while improving national competitiveness.

Luu Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said, "This represents a shift from scattered research to focused deployment, and from selecting technologies based on trends to choosing them based on the country's development needs.”

“It is a transition from individual support to assistance across the entire value chain—from research results and product development to commercialization and upgrading of industrial capacity," Minh added.

The month of May marked Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Day on May 18, the 2026 Science and Technology Book Exhibition, and Vietnam’s participation in global forums on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital transformation, and digital infrastructure in Singapore, the US, Thailand, and the Philippines.
