The 280 million USD complex, funded by non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) from the Japanese government, is among the largest and most technologically advanced space infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia.

It includes an operations facility, a satellite data application and research center, a space museum, a multimedia center, an international guest house, and the Nha Trang Observatory.

Speaking at the Vietnam-Japan Space Horizons Forum 2026, PM Chinh called for improved legal frameworks for space activities in line with international practices and for mobilizing resources to develop space science and technology.

“We must urgently develop and implement major national programs and projects for space science and technology development, focusing on strengthening Earth observation capabilities, building shared satellite data infrastructure, and improving real-time analysis, forecasting and operational support," said PM Chinh.
"The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology should continue to operate the Vietnam National Space Center effectively, safely and sustainably, making it a core national capability in space science and technology," he added.

PM Chinh highlighted cooperation with Japan, including launching the LOTUSat-1 satellite by the end of 2027, expanding collaboration in Earth observation, promoting satellite data applications, and developing small satellite systems.
