At a ceremony in Hanoi, the top leader requested that the University focus on effectively implementing seven key tasks to become a hub of Vietnamese intellect, contribute to solving major problems of national development, and train capable and intellectually strong individuals in the new era.
“Vietnam National University, Hanoi must strive to become a modern, multi-disciplinary elite university and operate according to the model of an innovative and creative university capable to lead the nation. ‘Elite’ must be measured by academic quality, the ability to create new knowledge, train talents, develop strategic technologies, and make substantial contributions to the country, while its prestige must be recognized internationally. The University needs a modern educational philosophy, advanced governance, and a liberal academic environment.”
General Secretary and President Lam stressed the need to complete construction of Hoa Lac University Urban Area soon in a green, smart, and modern direction and connected with the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park to form a leading ecosystem for training, research, technology, and innovation nationwide. He suggested that the University become a leading institution of Vietnamese academic diplomacy.
“Vietnam National University, Hanoi must become a center connecting knowledge with development, strengthening ties with the State, businesses, localities, and society. It needs to proactively develop research programs, policy consulting, and innovation initiatives based on major national orders. Cooperation should be ramped up with ministries, sectors, Hanoi, localities, tech companies, research institutes, and international expert networks. It’s necessary to promote the commercialization of research results, allow the formation of sci-tech enterprises from laboratories, and pay attention to the interests of scientists involved,” Mr. Lam said.
Established on May 16, 1906, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, formerly known as Indochina University, is the first modern university in Vietnam and one of the earliest modern university models in Southeast Asia. Now a leading multidisciplinary research university in Vietnam, it has nurtured many outstanding intellectuals, scientists, cultural figures, and leaders of the country.
