Nam met with a World Bank delegation on Monday to discuss the sustainable rice cultivation project supported by the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility.

He said: “The main purposes of the project are to increase the value of Vietnamese rice, boost production efficiency and farmers’ incomes, and protect the environment. The project has raised awareness among participating farmers. The current issue is how to measure greenhouse gas emission reduction. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented six pilot models in different localities, and will do so again for next year’s crops to create a methodology for measuring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas emissions from rice production.”

World Bank senior expert Li Guo said that, through the cooperation program, the bank provides financial and technical support to Vietnam. If successful, the project will be a global pilot model for this new farming method.
