The meeting drew more than 40 delegates from 11 member countries and representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Integrated Training Service under the United Nations Department of Peace Operations.

Speaking at the plenary session themed “Enhancing readiness for peacekeeping missions through training,” Major General Pham Manh Thang praised the significance of the forum saying it’s an important mechanism for ASEAN to maintain cooperation and improve training capacity in order to contribute more effectively to United Nations peacekeeping operations amid numerous challenges.

Mr. Thang said Vietnam has proactively enhanced its capacity and has standardized specialized training courses to meet international standards.

Vietnam now has Southeast Asia’s first internationally accredited advanced trauma life support training center and recently received certification from the United Nations Department of Peace Operations for its United Nations Staff Officers Course (UNSOC), meeting UN pre-deployment training standards. The Center is being developed into a high-quality and reputable training facility, both regionally and internationally.

Acknowledging Vietnam’s practical lessons, the Philippines proposed that Vietnam send a mobile instructor team to share experiences with other regional countries.
