Vietnam Customs announced the milestone on Thursday, describing it as a historic achievement in the country’s international trade. Exports reached more than 493 billion USD, up 27% from the same period last year.
The trade deficit also narrowed significantly, from more than 20 billion USD to around 14 billion USD, following two consecutive months of trade surpluses.
National Assembly deputy Tran Hoang Ngan, who represents Ho Chi Minh City, said the progress demonstrates Vietnam’s economic potential, standing, and reputation internationally, as well as its role in global trade.
“More importantly, we need to strengthen links with foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises to develop supporting industries and increase the value generated by domestic businesses’” he noted.
