Mr. Van, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, made the remarks at the 11th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which concluded in Paris on Friday.

He said that, as one of the earliest countries to join the 2003 Convention and with 17 elements inscribed on UNESCO’s lists of intangible cultural heritage, Vietnam consistently regards culture as the spiritual foundation of society, as well as both a goal and a driving force for sustainable development.

Marking Vietnam’s successful completion of its 2022-2026 term on the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Mr. Van reaffirmed the country’s commitment to playing a proactive, responsible and constructive role.

He said Vietnam would continue working closely with UNESCO and other member states to ensure the Convention remains an effective and people-centered framework for international cooperation, contributing to a more diverse, inclusive and peaceful world.
