At a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, General Secretary and President Lam applauded the outcomes of the talks between Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. He said he is confident that what has been achieved during the visit will lay groundwork for deeper and more substantive bilateral cooperation.
Discussing future cooperation directions, the Vietnamese top leader suggested that the two countries continue to consolidate political relations, increase exchanges of delegations, high-level contacts, and people-to-people exchanges.
He proposed promoting relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction, sharing experiences on Party building, governance, and national development. Mr. Lam also suggested that both sides strengthen cooperation in defense and security, address traditional and non-traditional security challenges, and expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation in areas with significant potential.
For his part, the Timor-Leste Prime Minister expressed his hope that both sides hold the first meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee soon to discuss plans and areas of cooperation. They will also consider areas where Vietnam can support Timor-Leste in boosting economic autonomy and private enterprises, refining institutions, and developing infrastructure.
