In an article titled “Vietnam takes a major step toward sustainable enterprise development with new national program,” the ILO said the Vietnamese government’s May 25 decision establishes a comprehensive framework to support private sector development in an economically efficient, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner. The program is aligned with Vietnam’s commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and its pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
According to the International Labour Organization, the program will help 25,000 enterprises, household businesses, and cooperatives adopt sustainable business practices, while also developing at least 20 model businesses. Priority areas include capacity building, digital and green transformation, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards, circular economy models, innovation, access to finance, and public-private partnerships for sustainable development.
Approving the program demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment to putting sustainability at the center of its enterprise development agenda, the ILO said, adding that it’s a step toward the organization’s vision of a future of work that leaves no one behind.
