The consensus was reached at the 11th Vietnam-UK Strategic Dialogue in London on Tuesday, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Rosalie Winterton, the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Ms. Winterton reaffirmed the importance the UK attaches to its relations with Vietnam and called for more effective implementation of existing initiatives, including the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions program and the UK-Vietnam Offshore Wind Accelerator Partnership.

She also proposed mobilizing resources under the Just Energy Transition Partnership and promoting green finance and clean energy to help Vietnam achieve its target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Deputy Minister Hang called for stronger cooperation in areas where the UK has expertise and Vietnam has demand, including the development of an international financial centre and securities and commodity markets.

She also urged the UK to encourage its financial institutions, banks, and investment funds to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s international financial centre and capital market, while expanding cooperation in new financial products and services, high-quality workforce training, clean energy, and green finance.

Both sides affirmed that effective implementation of the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership would further promote trade, investment, and business connectivity.
