Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang made the statement on Tuesday in response to a reporter’s question about China’s recent announcement of a fishing ban from May 1 to August 16 this year in parts of the East Sea.

Hang said, “Vietnam’s position on China’s fishing ban in the East Sea has been consistent and clearly reiterated over the years.”

Vietnam urged China to respect the rights of Vietnamese fishermen to conduct lawful activities in Vietnam’s waters and in maritime areas beyond national jurisdiction, in line with international law, particularly UNCLOS. She added that China should refrain from actions that complicate the situation and instead contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the East Sea.
