At a meeting in Hanoi on Friday, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink also agreed to redouble efforts to overcome the consequences of war, address climate change, and promote new areas of cooperation such as innovation, semiconductors, and clean energy transition.
They emphasized the importance of resolving disputes, including the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea) issue, through peaceful means based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
Assistant Secretary of State Kritenbrink also met Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc to discuss issues within the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and other issues of mutual concern.
