Over nearly 8 decades, UN peacekeeping missions have become one of the international community’s most effective tools for addressing complex conflicts threatening global peace and security.
A proactive UN member since 1977, Vietnam has made significant contributions to global peacekeeping efforts. Since 2014, the country has deployed nearly 1,400 professional servicemen and women to UN peacekeeping missions. Vietnamese peacekeepers have been widely praised by the UN and international colleagues for their professionalism, skills and discipline.
“Our Vietnamese colleagues consistently demonstrate outstanding discipline. They are punctual, respect the chain of command, and maintain high standards in appearance and conduct. They are excellent partners. Working with them also allows us to learn from one another and broaden our professional experience,” said Colonel Yeman Yao Arsene, Head of Planning for the MINUSCA Police Component.
Participating in UN peacekeeping operations has highlighted Vietnam’s role, capabilities and responsibility in addressing major global challenges. It has also helped strengthen Vietnam’s reputation and standing on the international stage.
