The beach, located on the island of the same name in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site, was the only Vietnamese destination to earn a place ranked by US-based organization Corona Beach 100 on June 8.
The 2026 list features beaches from 22 countries and includes 27 newcomers. The selection is based on criteria including scenic beauty, ecological value, cultural heritage and nature-based experiences. The ranking also highlights the ecosystems that underpin the appeal of these destinations.
The 8.7 hectare island is about 12 kilometers from Tuan Chau International Cruise Port in Ha Long City. According to the Ha Long Bay-Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board, the island is now closed to visitors while infrastructure is being upgraded. The beach is expected to reopen later this year to better meet the growing demand for sightseeing and leisure tourism.
Soi Sim is home to a primeval forest of plant species endemic to Ha Long Bay. The name Soi Sim comes from “sim” (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa), a typical plant species on this island. From May to August is the time to see purple “sim” flowers in full bloom there.
