Attending the launch ceremony was VOV’s General Director Do Tien Sy, who is a member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Publicity. He was joined by VOV’s deputy general directors and department leaders.

The music channel launch implements Politburo Resolution 80 on developing Vietnamese culture. In the three months since the initial concept of establishing the channel, VOV broadcasters have worked on program schedules, selected music sources, consulted domestic and international experts, and set up a production team to put Sonata-FM89 on the air.

Music editor Nguyen Thu Thu Cuc said, “It’s a great honor to be entrusted with the mission of bringing the world’s treasury of classical music, including Vietnamese orchestral and chamber masterpieces, to audiences nationwide. VOV Sonata–FM89 is the realization of an aspiration to bring top-tier music to our listeners.”

Pham Manh Hung, VOV’s Vice General Director directly in charge of the new channel, said its launch demonstrates the cultural responsibility and strategic direction of a national media agency.

“VOV Sonata-FM89 is a beautiful gift to Vietnamese listeners and future generations, a place for the public to explore music and integrate it into daily life,” said Hung, adding, “The channel has the potential to become a prestigious music channel in Asia that showcases Vietnamese talent and shares music and musical knowledge with the region and the world. That’s the expectation and responsibility set for broadcasters.”

VOV is refining its program schedule and content creation, concluding copyright agreements, expanding partnerships, developing digital platforms, upgrading technical infrastructure for production, transmission, and broadcasting, and hosting more music events at home and abroad.

VOV Sonata-FM89 will broadcast around the clock from now until the end of the year. Its initial FM coverage spans 10 areas: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, and Phu Quoc. In 2027 VOV will expand the channel's coverage nationwide.
