Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, the WHO's regional director for Europe, said in a statement that there are currently no Ebola cases in North America or Europe as the outbreak spreads in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr. Kluge said current health assessments don’t justify widespread travel restrictions or changes to fan travel plans, but he emphasized the importance of following official health guidance and staying informed. He also said the spread of Ebola is not determined by nationality or ethnicity, challenging the stigma that is often placed on Ebola patients and others from both affected and unaffected African communities.

In recent weeks, the Ebola outbreak has drawn attention on the sidelines of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. US authorities have implemented additional health screening measures for travelers arriving from affected regions and urged other countries to strengthen their surveillance efforts to prevent any cross-border transmission.
