During a visit to Bunia, the capital of Ituri province and the epicenter of the current outbreak, Tedros said the international community is working alongside the Congolese government to respond to the crisis.
However, he stressed that additional financial resources from donor countries are urgently needed, along with stronger engagement from local communities, including efforts to combat misinformation and distrust of public health measures.
The WHO chief also urged countries that have imposed travel restrictions or closed their borders over Ebola concerns to reconsider those measures, warning that they could complicate the response effort and undermine the transparency and cooperation needed to bring the outbreak under control.
