According to the IAEA, a team of experts working at the plant noted damage to the exterior of a turbine building after the incident on Saturday. The agency said these observations are consistent with the administration's claims of a drone strike. Russia claims Ukraine was behind the attack, but Ukraine denies the accusation.

The IAEA stated that radiation levels at the plant “remain normal” and have not been found to affect nuclear safety. However, the agency continues to closely monitor the situation and has requested "access to examine the affected turbine building first-hand."

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is Europe's largest nuclear facility with six generating units, each with a capacity of 1 Gigawatt. Zaporizhzhia has been under Russian control since October 2022. The IAEA has repeatedly expressed concerns about safety risks given its location in a conflict zone and has called on all parties to avoid any military actions that could threaten nuclear security.
