A certificate award ceremony was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on Monday, acknowledging the sustained efforts of Cao Bang province in preserving and promoting geological, cultural, and natural heritage values in association with community livelihood development.

The latest revalidation upholds the role of the Global Geoparks Network as an effective platform for international cooperation, where countries share experiences in heritage conservation and foster sustainable socio-economic development.

Present at the virtual ceremony, Nong Thi Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Cao Bang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the province will continue strengthening management, conservation, and promotion of heritage values on par with environmental protection and sustainable development. More activities will be held to enhance education and communication, promote sustainable tourism, and ensure harmonious benefit-sharing within the community.

The renewed recognition also provides favorable conditions for Cao Bang to promote tourism as a key economic sector, said Nguyen Quoc Trung, Director of the Cao Bang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

“In the 2026-2030 period, we will focus on developing green and sustainable tourism products linked to the Global Geopark, including community-based and ecotourism. Cao Bang hopes the government will invest more in strategic transport infrastructure, such as expressways and roads connecting tourist sites; introduce specific policies to attract major investors; provide capital incentives to businesses and communities; and promote the Cao Bang tourism brand.”

First recognized by UNESCO in April, 2018, the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark has a history of geological formations spanning 500 million years. As the world is facing numerous environmental and climate change challenges, this successful geopark model is expected to inspire other localities around the world.
