The projected capacity would help Vietnam meet targets set out in its revised power development plan 8, the report said. Vietnam currently has nearly 6 GW of installed wind power capacity, mostly from onshore and nearshore projects. While no commercial offshore wind farms are yet in operation, GWEC said Vietnam's future market is taking shape.
Ben Backwell, chief executive of GWEC, said Vietnam has strong industrial capabilities, a skilled workforce and offshore wind resources estimated at up to 600 GW. He said turning planned projects into reality would require streamlined administrative procedures, stronger coordination among authorities and bankable power purchase agreements (PPAs) to boost investor confidence and attract capital for the sector.
