This is a strategic step toward protecting marine ecosystems, promoting a green marine economy, and safeguarding security and sovereignty in Vietnam’s northeastern waters.
The Co To–Tran Island Marine Protected Area covers more than 18,000 hectares, making it one of the region’s large-scale marine conservation zones. To ensure its effective operation, Quang Ninh province has identified six priority tasks and projects, including improving management mechanisms, developing infrastructure, restoring ecosystems, supporting local livelihoods, raising public awareness, and promoting sustainable ecotourism.
The establishment of the protected area and the creation of its management team reflect Quang Ninh’s strong commitment to implementing the National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy. Guided by a “green, smart, and sustainable” development approach, Co To is seeking to transform its tourism industry from focusing on quantity to emphasizing quality and sustainability.
