This is considered a crucial step to steer Quang Ninh's strategically important island region closer to the goal of sustainable development.
At the end of June, the concentrated aquaculture zone project officially commenced construction in Co To, marking a new milestone for the local industrial and modern offshore aquaculture industry.
The project is being implemented in the Hon Ngang area, about 7km from Small Co To Island and Thanh Lan Island, covering nearly 210 hectares of sea surface with a depth of up to 12m. When fully operational in 2027, the project is expected to produce over 830 tons per year.
The project will generate more livelihoods for locals and builds the Co To seafood brand associated with quality standards and traceability. It also lays a foundation for Quang Ninh to realize its goal of having industrial marine farming account for over 75% of the province's total seafood production by 2030.
