Both sides agreed to promote the delimitation of the maritime areas outside the Gulf of Tonkin, and continue discussions on maritime cooperation and joint development in order to achieve substantive progress soon.

The two countries also pledged to actively promote cooperation in less sensitive maritime areas on the basis of international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, or UNCLOS.

They stressed the importance of fully implementing the common understandings reached by senior leaders of the two Parties and countries, as well as the Agreement on the basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues between Vietnam and China. They reaffirmed their commitment to better managing and actively addressing disagreements.

The two countries agreed to work together to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea and the region, contributing to further development of the Vietnam–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a deeper and more substantive manner.

The next round of talks is scheduled to take place in China at a mutually convenient time.
