Morocco secured a convincing 3-0 victory over hosts Canada at NRG Stadium in the United States, booking its place in the last eight. The result makes Morocco the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarterfinals in two consecutive tournaments. The upcoming clash with France will be a rematch of their 2022 World Cup semifinal.

France edged Paraguay 1-0 thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappé, sealing its place in the quarterfinals.

Mbappé now leads the Golden Boot race. Although he is level with Lionel Messi on seven goals at the 2026 tournament, the French forward moves ahead on the tiebreaker with two assists, while Messi has yet to register one. Mbappé's strike also marked his 19th goal in 19 World Cup appearances, leaving him just one goal shy of Messi's tournament record of 20 World Cup goals.
