The Tunisian football federation announced his dismissal on its Instagram account.
54-year-old Lamouchi was hired in January. He coached 5 matches and won only once, against Haiti. Assistant coach Wahbi Khazri will take charge of the team for the rest of this World Cup. This will be Tunisia's fourth coaching change since January 2024.
Tunisia will face Japan on Saturday in the same stadium in Guadalupe where they lost against Sweden, and will finish their group games against the Netherlands next Thursday in Kansas City.
This is Tunisia's 7th appearance in a World Cup tournament. Its 5-1 defeat to Sweden was its worst World Cup loss since a 5-2 defeat to Belgium in 2018. The team has never made it past the group stage.
